"The End of the Tour," David Lipsky's successful novel, recounts his five-day interview with renowned novelist David Foster Wallace in 1996. Imagine a modest yet cluttered cabin, adorned with posters of Alanis Morissette, a Barney baby towel, and copies of Wallace's epic novel "Infinite Jest," where a newly famous Wallace resides with his two black dogs. The cult author, having recently achieved fame with "Infinite Jest," teaches at a nearby university and is in the final leg of his reading tour, which takes place during winter. David Lipsky, a journalist from Rolling Stone magazine, aims to visit Wallace in his natural habitat and accompany him during the last five days of the tour to write an article. Both writers are in their thirties, each aspiring to be like the other, while one is uncertain about his own identity. The rest of the story unfolds through conversations about our vulnerabilities and loneliness, accompanied by chewed tobacco, mega-sized drinks from American roadside restaurants, and large-sized snacks. Along the way, we get to know Wallace in his most human and intimate moments. "The End of the Tour" is a simple film, so simple that it will make you want to dance to room music once it's over.
